Last week I was intrigued by a restaurant that I had never been to before. Before the Montauk took Scottsdale’s restaurant scene by storm, there used to be a bar that was home to the Kansas Jayhawk fans and would always go off during March Madness. Now, that place no longer exists and a newer restaurant with incredible food has moved in and is making a name for themselves. From live music on Sundays, a great happy hour and brunch menu every day of the week, and some cocktails that you won’t find anywhere else, Montauk is quickly becoming a staple for locals in the Old Town Scottsdale area.
If you find yourself at this establishment, do yourself a favor and order some food. I highly recommend their fish tacos but if you come here before 3 PM on a weekend, be sure to check out their brunch options. All of the servers here are really nice and provide great customer service which you don’t find everywhere you go in Scottsdale. This place is a refreshing new look into what had seemed like a restaurant scene that was fizzling out with new ideas. The owners of this restaurant saw some options that weren’t being offered anywhere else in Scottsdale which is why (in my opinion) this place has gained such popularity in such a short amount of time.
I wanted to give a shout out to the owners of NTS Landscaping Contractors for introducing this restaurant and bar to me. We met them here for lunch last week which was a place they had recommended and I am very glad they did because I will be visiting this place often. By the way, NTS is a great company and if you need landscaping services in Scottsdale, I highly recommend visiting their website here to see what services they offer. Ya, I told them I would give them a shout out in this blog post since they were responsible for introducing Montauk to me, so if the owners of NTS are reading this, here’s your shout out!
I love a good bar and restaurant that I can plunk down and watch a great day of sports on a Sunday afternoon. One of my favorite spots to do this is at Zipp’s! Not only do they have one of my favorite burgers in the state of Arizona (the infamous green chili burger), but they also have a great beer selection at extremely affordable prices. They even have happy hour on Saturdays and Sundays!
Zipp’s is conveniently located on Camelback Rd. just a few blocks east of Scottsdale Rd. When you walk in you’ll notice they have a large dining room, bar, and multiple games you can play with friends. They have shuffle board, arcade games, and a pool table that the entire family can enjoy. There are about 20 different flat screen T.V.’s located throughout the restaurant which makes it very easy to view multiple sports games at the same time. They always feature the best sports that are airing including NASCAR, golf, baseball, basketball, football, hockey, and pretty much anything else you can think of. Watching football on Sundays at this establishment is one of my favorite things to do on the weekends. They have a huge patio with ample seating so if you have a large group this could be the perfect option for you.
When it comes to food, Zipp’s is one of the best places to eat in all of Scottsdale. I highly recommend starting off with their Wing’s. When you order, make sure you ask for extra crispy and get the medium flavored sauce. The hot sauce is very spicy but it’s a good choice for those of you who like to play with fire. They have extremely good chicken tenders that come on a stick which makes them easy to dip in the sauces that come on the side. The Philly Rolls are also really good appetizers and are perfect for sharing with your family and friends. If you’re more of a healthy eater, the salads are really good and very filling so you don’t have to worry about leaving hungry.
Zipp’s is known for their specials including their 7 days a week happy hour menu. Their wings, pizza, beers, and mixed drinks are feature on their happy hour menus at different times so be sure to visit their website to see what’s feature on the menu for that particular day. Zipp’s has a little something for everyone which makes it a great option for a casual drink out with co-workers or a nice dinner out with your significant other. I don’t have any complaints a bout this place which is quite a statement because I’ve been here over twenty different times. If you don’t live in the Old Town Scottsdale area, they do have other locations in North Scottsdale, Phoenix, and Mesa, so it shouldn’t be too much of a commute for your to enjoy a nice meal or drink at this place. Overall I would give them 4.5 starts out of 5 so needless to say I highly recommend you check this place out if you haven’t already!
Cold Beer & Cheeseburgers is one of my all time favorite burger joints in Scottsdale, Arizona. This quaint little restaurants features an awesome beer selection, great burgers, and always hosts UFC fights. Most places you go to in Scottsdale are going to charge you a minimum of $10 to get through the door, but at Cold Beer & Cheeseburgers, they charge nothing! This is a great deal and attracts huge crowds on Saturdays when it’s a fight night. With all the great options at this place, what do you pick to eat?
My favorite option here is to go for the build your own burger deal they offer. You basically get to pick your style of meat, bun, and all of your favorite toppings. This entree option comes with potato chips but you can add any of their sides for an extra $2. I have never been able to finish my entire burger before, so my recommendation would definitely be to come hungry!
Not into burgers? Don’t worry! Cold Beer & Cheeseburgers offers tons of great options other than burgers. They are very well known for their Mac N’ Cheese and their awesome salad selection. This restaurants is not a one trick pony when it comes to food, so don’t get discourage by the name. Remember how I was talking about building my own burger? Well, you can do the exact same thing with your mac n’ cheese also. You get to pick from a ton of extra awesome toppings (including bacon!) that is sure to please any food lover.
What can you expect when you come here? Usually on the weekends this place can get pretty crowded. They have an awesome system which allows you to get a text message when your table is ready which is very convenient. Most of the time there will be places to sit on their outside patio, especially during summer when it’s a little warmer outside. The wait time for a booth is an average of 15 minutes on a weekend night (according to their GMB profile) which is not a bad turnover time for how busy this place gets. Inside they have a long U-shaped bar that can seat quite a few people and you can order food there, so just in case you don’t want to wait for a booth, this is always a good option. The patio outside can seat around 50 people which is another great option if you don’t feel like waiting for a booth. We will warn you that if you go here for a UFC fight, the waiting time can be much longer so we recommend getting here early. Most of the time that we’ve shown up here right at the beginning of the fight, we’ve usually been able to get seated pretty quickly. Very soon after the fight starts, you’ll find yourself waiting quite a while. We hope you take our advice and go here to get some beers and some grub sometime! We promise you won’t be mad at us for recommending this place to you.
